Dragon's Gift (DraconusLillium x Knix)
« on: November 19, 2017, 12:09:46 pm »
Man's ego did not get him very far.
When word reached the dragon that some lord was bragging about how he had supposedly killed a series of dragons to keep the lands safe, he decided that he would teach him a lesson for telling lies. He planned his strategy and left his cave in the mountains. The journey there was no long at all. He reached the lands and let out a piercing roar. People screamed and even guards cowered. He landed between the structures, crushing an Inn and a brothel next to one another. He opened his beastly mouth and blew fire out at the people who ran from him, burning them with their houses and stores.
That was enough for now, he decided. He would return the next day to see what this supposed leader would do in an attempt to cut him down, to stop 'yet another' dragon.

He returned the next day at the same time and caused more destruction.

And the day after that, he returned at the same time. He hoped they would expect him, at least have an attack planned, but he had been too hopeful. The leader stood with a girl bent to her knees before him. The dragon lowered himself to the ground, landing in the part of town he had already ruined. He turned his head at the sight. An offering? How thoughtful of the leader - the supposed fearful leader who had bragged about killing his kind. Where was his strength now?

"Oh, feared dragon. We offer you this virgin as sacrifice, in exchange for our town." The man said to the dragon. He lowered his head and sniffed her. She was indeed a virgin, dressed in tatters, probably lowborn. He wasn't even sorry enough to offer his own daughter. The dragon curled his lips, exposing his teeth and how he felt over the sacrifice. It was not the girl, it was what the lord was willing to offer for the safety of his people.

Brantley did not understand man, even though he was half man. He was not raised the way they were, and he certainly would never brag or make empty promises to his people. He wanted to teach this man a lesson - but perhaps he would take the girl for now and see how he felt later.

Terror had descended upon the lands in the form of a dragon. The great beast destroyed inns and homes, and killing their occupants and those that were unlucky enough to been seen on the streets. The first attack had been a surprise, even the second had been unexpected, but soon it seemed as though the huge creature was a part of everyday life. It was a terrible thing to grow accustomed to, and yet the lord  did nothing to rally his soldiers, and little was done to give safety to the citizens. Finally the loss of property and life was too much and the townspeople threatened retaliation against the lord and his family. The demanded protection, they demanded the once great warrior take responsibility for the destruction his pride and boasting brought upon them.

Aria had been certain her father would don his armor and gather his warriors, that he would do everything that he could to protect the people that worked so hard to make their lands prosperous. But her father was no longer the warrior he once was, and he buried his fear of facing the dragon with alcohol. It was only when the citizens half stormed their home that he was forced to act. How the decision that a young woman would be given to the beast was made Aria was not sure, but that did little to keep her from setting forward. Her father had been the one to bring this creature's wrath to the lands and it would be her that would protect the people and the lands that she loved. She had been half dragged from the room by her father's personal guard, and locked away in her rooms.

Sneaking out was a more complex problem than the young woman had expected, but gathering the supplies she needed had been so much more of a challenge. Even rushing it had taken time for her to disguise herself, hiding her figure with a tight half corset, an undershirt and a tunic, her dark leather pants and leather boots completing her outfit. She braided and pinned up her hair, the hood of a guard's cloak masking her enough to allow her entrance into the nearly empty guard armory. There she managed to piece together enough leather armor to cover herself, pulling a cloth up to mask her face. Her hands shook as she gathered up the last of her supplies, a short sword small enough to her to quickly wield, a round metal shield and several small daggers she could hide. Satisfied with her preparations, but shaking with fear she made her way to the stables, saddled her horse and charged toward the main town.

Aria looked on in anger and horror as the great beast towered over the weeping woman, her head lowered and her wrists bound in strips of cloth. Never had Aria been so ashamed of her father, so horrified at the willingness of the people to follow him. She nearly jumped from her horse's saddle, the frightened animal torn between keeping her in sight and running from the dragon. The beast moved closer to the woman and the horse bolted, though Aria strode forward to face him. She reached the young woman before anyone else realized she was there or what she was doing, and using a knife she freed the girl. “Run. Go back to your family, or friends, but leave this area.”

With that she pulled the shield from her back and drew her sword, facing the dragon. She clenched her jaw, holding back the words that buzzed through her mind. It would do her little good to let anyone know her gender, or who she was. Chaos seemed to erupt behind her, with most of those brave enough to gather turning to run while her father's voice cried out for them to remain, for the masked warrior to leave. Instead, Aria advanced, doing her best to hide the fear in her eyes and the shaking of her hands.

Brantley had been about to swipe the girl up with his talon. He wanted to leave a final warning before taking her back to his cave. Before he could act, a masked warrior rode in on a horse that was frightened to death. The warrior cut his girl loose and stood in her place, holding a pitiful sword and shield up. He had thought for a moment that he had heard the voice of a woman, but he was looking at the body of a young man or a boy. The dragon tossed his head up and let out a roar that sounded like laughter. He was in fact laughing, that one person, one warrior, would come and attempt to kill him with such a small sword. It wouldn't even penetrate through to his heart.

He lowered his head again, pressing his scaled nose closer to the warrior. He smelled her like he had smelled the offering. He wanted to roll in the scent he was getting from this human. It was so much better than the smell of a virgin, or even ten. He let a low purring sound resonate from his throat. He wanted this one. He lift his head slightly, grabbing her sword in his mouth. He bit it in half and let it drop to the ground. He wasn't going to let the warrior threaten him. He would have this person know that he could destroy the whole town if he wanted to, but he was getting such a sweet offering so why would he?

Brantley reached forward with the clawed thumb on his wing and tore the cloth off the warrior's face in one motion. He wanted to see at least a part of this one's face before he took them home. He was satisfied. He could still barely discern what this warrior was, but he wanted what he wanted and he would have it. He wondered if him not attacking the people was strange, or if they had expected such a large dragon to stand for so long and wordlessly interact with a human. His patience was wearing thin, either way. So he lowered his head to his gift, the warrior, and coaxed them on to his neck, his wing pushing the human along. He was making himself vulnerable, but he still believed that there was nothing just one human could do to even fatally wound him.

The dragon lifted its head, a ululating sound erupting from its maw. The beast was laughing at her, she was sure of it. And her singular opposition to such a creature was absurd. The thought that she could actually do anything to such a powerful creature was not something she considered, but to do nothing went against her sense of responsibility. She hadn't hoped to kill it, or even to grievously wound it, only to free the woman who had been given no choice, her life shown to be worthless enough to throw away. As the last few people hurried off she knew she had accomplished at least that goal.

The dragon lowered its head, moving closer and she held the short sword out, keeping it between her and the beast. It inhaled, the strength of its breath pulling at her cloak as it took in her scent. With its original offering gone the creature was likely testing how worthy she was, though how it would be able to tell was beyond her, but it seemed pleased enough. Something she could only describe as a purr rumbled through the creature. It moved suddenly, lifting its head and snapping it forward, its powerful jaws snapping her sword in half before letting it fall in pieces at her feet. Aria's heat pounded in her chest, her only real weapon destroyed in an instant. The thought to step back, to put some useless distance between them crossed her mind but her body did not seem to listen, her feet frozen in place, her hands shaking with her fear.

Aria did her best to convince herself she was still accepting of the idea of her as the offering, and in principle she was, but the fear of facing such a fate was more difficult to come to terms with when she was face to face with a creature capable of destroying any trace of the town.  The creature moved again, this time a claw swiping in front of her, too quickly for her to react, and tearing her cloak's hood, and tearing the mask from her face. How she was left unharmed was a miracle, but the creature seemed to examine her with an intelligence that was unexpected. Sounds of others, whispers echoing around the buildings the citizens were hiding among, reached her ears, the dragon had not yet killed her as they all expected. The dragon lowered its head once more, this time low enough that it was almost level with her, its wing moving to wrap around her back, pushing her into motion. The sudden contact with the creature seemed to pull her from her stupor, and she shoved against the wing, trying to backpeddle away from the creatures neck. She pulled a dagger from her belt, slashing out at the creature, the blade doing little if anything to damage the dragon's scales.

Bran realized that his gentle approach was not making sense to this warrior. He was being kind for a dragon. He should have killed the person by then, he should have burned her alive just for pointing that sword at him. Dragons were after all more important than meager humans. Their species was rare and they, in that sense and according to Brandton, deserved to be respected. He did not want a crown or a title, merely respect.

He was getting none of that from his opponent. She was under the impression that they were in opposition, but he wanted this warrior as his sacrifice. They came to stand in place of the virgin, which was in his mind her willingly taking the lowborn's place. She was his already, she just didn't know it yet. She drew another hidden weapon, jabbing him with it. He screeched with a momentary feeling of fear filling him. There was a rare kind of blade that could pierce the scales of a dragon, which would lead to his death - but he realized that she was not weilding such a blade, so instead he growled a warning at her.

The dragon was not going to be gentle with her any longer. He opened his large mouth and snapped it shut around her. He was careful to not hurt her, but he felt her woollen cloak lodging between his teeth. He was vulnerable with her in his mouth, especially if she was planning on using any more of her concealed daggers. She could do her worst, it would only injure him. If she planned on killing him, her best bet would be to wait till he turned himself back into a man.

With the human in his mouth, the dragon stretched his wings and kicked off the ground. He flapped his powerful apendages and grunted as he took off. His mouth vibrated around his passenger. He had wanted to let out a fearsome roar, but he did not want to drop her. Perhaps, if the townspeople were clever enough they would realize she was alive in his mouth, safe from the large teeth that were so close to her, laying on a bed that was his tongue. He flew to his home in the mountains and landed in the grassy fields before he spat her out. He gazed down at her - wondering what he had taken. He still only saw a warrior, and he was unsure if it was a boy or a woman he had taken. He had just wanted this warrior to himself.

The dragon screeched as she slashed at it, though the sound seemed more of anger than anything and she instantly regretted the attack. It had been pointless, and now she had angered the beast. She tried to move back, to stumble out of the way but it rose up, its head shooting forward and its mouth closing around her. Aria's shield had been up, and she was grateful for it, giving her some illusion that should to creature try to bite down she could pivot it and keep herself from being crushed. But it was simply a pretty thought, and not reality. The dragon could easily end her life by simply closing its mouth.

Aria had expected herself to scream, the fear of being crushed to death, of being eaten by such a beast was more real than any possible danger she had ever faced.  Her cloak  tangled in his teeth, her body resting on the wet heat of its tongue. She realized that she had dropped her dagger, and laying as she was she could not reach her other one tucked in her leather boot.

She could feel the sudden pull of gravity, as though the world had dropped out from under her, as the dragon took off, taking to the air in a leap. How long they were in flight, and how far they traveled Aria could not tell, she could not even tell the temperature had dropped until he dropped her roughly onto the grass. She felt sticky and weak, her cloak had been pulled free from her as she rolled from his mouth and across the grass. Aria closed her eyes, willing the fear and dizziness away before finally pushing herself to her feet. Her braid fell free of the pins, and she stepped back away from the giant creature slowly, unsure of what it intended to do with her.

Brantley struggled with the cloak for a moment, pulling it from his mouth with one of his large tallons. He tried to be as careful with it was possible, letting it drop to the grassy plains between him and the warrior. She stood back from him, her hair falling from it's confines to reveal to him that she was a woman. The dragon exhaledin relief. Despite not having any qualms with the idea of being with a man, he much preferred women. He especially liked the woman who stood before him. The dragon bowed his head at her, as if thanking her for being his sacrifice, his gift.

Brantley realized that it was no fun staring at her, and having her look at him. People feared dragons, and they were right to. His large body shook, the red scales shimmering as he shifted, shaping himself back into a man. He groaned softly as something popped into place and he finally stood before her as a man. He was naked, too. Behind him stood his house, his hideout in the mountains. He was not far from civilization at all. He was not going to hide just because he was half beast.

"What is your name?" He asked her as he moved closer. He snatched her cloak up off the grass and shook it somewhat before he took a few more steps and offered it to her. She looked like she did not appreciate the cool air on the top of his little hill.

"Why did you take the other girl's place?" He asked her another question. He was always more beast than human, and this human and her motives had him feeling very curious. He raised his brow at her, his eyes studying her and what she was wearing.

The dragon seemed to watch her, taking in her appearance and dress. It was one thing to hear of the intelligence of dragons, but another thing to be faced with it so closely. Whatever the beast was thinking it seemed pleased, or at least pleased enough that it could bow its head at her. Aria made no move to communicate back with it, instead simply holding her position.

There was a moment where they just watched each other, Aria unsure of what to do, what she could do without being attacked or herded once again. Suddenly the dragon's great form shuddered, its scales shimmering and shifting. It took her a moment to understand what was going on, that the dragon was shrinking in size and more importantly shifting in form.  A moment later a man stood before her, and a naked one at that.

Color flared in Aria's cheeks and she turned quickly to the side, averting her gaze as she wrapped her arms around herself. The man, once a dragon, moved closer, his voice calling out to her over the sound of the light wind, and the pounding of her heart in her ears. He asked for her name and she couldn't seem to form an answer, to force herself to speak. He was close now, close enough to hand her her cloak. Aria reached out hesitantly, grasping the cloth in her hand before quickly pulling it close to her body, slipping it around her shoulders. It hardly stopped him from looking her over, from examining her ill-fitted leather armor. “I.. I had to..” It was hardly a response, but at least she knew her voice still worked. “She should not have been offered...”

Brantley raised his brow when he got nothing from the woman. Not even a name, a hint or a murmur. He waited another second, thinking that maybe it would come, but it didn't. She said something else, though, the most confusing words he had heard uttered to date. He frowned deeply, then he nodded at her.

"Hmm." He hummed thoughtfully. He stepped closer and poked her shoulder. "I got a broken one instead." He complained. He was still pleased, her smell being the best he's smelled in his entire life. He looked her over, thoughtfully, as if he was deciding if he was going to keep this broken human or not. He sighed and grabbed her by her hips, tossing her over his shoulder. He turned and walked with her into his very nice house. It was better than a cabin. He set her on her feet in the middle of the living room.

"Right. Since you cannot utter your name, I'll call you Sweetheart." He decided. "So, Sweetheart. As mine you'll do anything I ask. Hmmm?" He raised his brows and nodded and made sure that she understood what she was being asked. He didn't know how far her comprehension stretched. He was sure he had gotten a broken one - one dressed in men's leather armor at that.

"Are you a virgin?" He teased her, his hand capturing her chin with his thumb moving over her lips. He was a large man, which was due to the dragon blood. He had longish black hair and green eyes, like a reptile.

Even in the body of a human the creature was more beast than man, having no obvious understanding of why she was so uncomfortable, why his nudity could possibly make her that way. He poked her shoulder, calling her broken and she turned her head, glaring at him even as she shied away. “I'm not broken.” She wasn't sure what he would do with her should he consider her broken. Return her to her village before choosing another, or perhaps just killing her if he decided she was too broken to keep. Was he planning on keeping her? Stories and tales of dragons rarely spoke of a dragon actually getting to keep a sacrificial virgin, a knight and his men would quickly save her. But this was no story. Aria could not be sure that her father would send men to save her, that he would even notice she was missing, that she was the one who had ridding into town to take the place of the other young woman.

Her thoughts were cut off as the dragon grabbed her by her hips, lifting her as though she weighed nothing, and flung her over his shoulder. She gasped in surprise, struggling against him. “Put me down. I.. I can walk.” He ignored her, his long legs eating away the distance between their landing spot and the house. She found herself inside and set on her feet once more in only a few brief moments. Aria pushed the stray hair from her eyes, and tugged her tunic and leather armor back into place.

“Sweet...?” She had begun to protest, but he continued, declaring her his, his property. She was took shocked by the revelation of his thoughts to respond, and he continued on without caring if she responded. Color flared in her cheeks, azure eyes flickering from his emerald ones to anywhere else in the room. She needed to answer, needed to tell him the truth. She had chosen to take the place of the other woman, to sacrifice herself for the mistakes of her father. “Y-yes...I'm a virgin.”

The dragon narrowed his eyes at his prize. She speaks... coherently! He was pleased at that fact, so much so that a grin spread across his face. Oh, how he had missed intellectual banter, conversation and discussions. Even though humans were not the preferred partner to converse with, she would do. All the dragons he knew fled the lands because of that lord and his empty threats. Brantley was the only one brave enough to test that threat out.

She confessed that she was a virgin. He was so pleased to hear that, that he bit his bottom lip. It was going to take everything he had in him to hold back from tainting her just yet. Dragons loved virgins for some reason. It explained her wonderful scent. "Wonderful, you get to be all mine." He growled as he leaned in, making sure she heard him say those words, that she was his now.

Brantley turned away from her and found his pants. He tugged them on and rummaged through the place in search of a shirt. "I am Brantley. You are welcome to call me Bran... or master." He added the last bit teasingly, winking at her. He finally found his shirt, so he pulled that on and faced her again. "Now that introductions are out of the way, Sweetheart, we are east of where you offered yourself to me. There are towns around us, and yes you may go there - as long as you return within an hour of being gone. Remember, I'm a dragon. I will burn any town down to come and get you myself." He warned her, leaning in close again.

"Can you cook? What color is your underwear?" He asked almost in one breath, his lips curling into a teasing grin as he stared at her. He was easily angered, but this beauty before him had done nothing to provoke him, so he was being very nice. She was a soft little virgin after all.

The dragon narrowed his eyes at her and it sent a shiver of fear through her. He watched her like she was prey of some kind, and in truth she was. Even if she had willingly offered herself to him, though her hope had foolishly been otherwise, she was his prize, his prey, and he had little reason to see her as anything else. His expression shifted to one of pure delight and pleasure as she admitted to him her virginity. The sight was as frightening as his leers, giving her no clue as to what a beast such as himself would want with a human woman, and the importance of a virgin.

His next statement gave her some idea of it, his claim on every bit of her. He had leaned in close, his breath hot and his words practically growled at her. She said nothing, and made no move to nod or agree with him. She was raised on stories of knights and dragons, of ancient magic and romanticism.  Dragons were terrible beasts, knights of the realms defeated them, and princesses were married to those knights or lords who killed such beasts. There was no real hope of her being rescued, but that hardly meant she thought her first experience would be with a dragon, even if he wore the handsome guise of a man.

At least he was making some effort to cover himself, she tried not to watch from the corner of her eye as he pulled on pants, and then searched out a shirt. “Bran?” She half whispered his name, surprised and perhaps confused. What sort of name was that for a dragon? She realized that he had possibly just teasingly told her to call him master. Were such creatures capable of humor and teasing? She pushed the thought away as he moved closer once again, explaining where they were and some of his rules.

“I can hardly answer you if you ask so many things at once..” She took a half step back from him, wanting some distance. “And my name is not 'sweetheart' and how am I supposed to get to a town and back in only an hour? I cannot fly.. and I would not risk the lives of those in other towns.”  She was tempted to not even answer his other questions but at least answered one. “And yes.. I can cook.”

Branton looked at the woman and raised his brows at her questioning his name. He had thought for a moment that she wanted to ask him something or engage in conversation, but he had been dead wrong. He could see the inner turmoil she was putting herself through, the something in her eyes alerting him to the fact that she was not thinking about flowers and dragon pups.

She retaliated in the next moment and it angered him. She made him out to be a monster - and then she seemed to fold by telling him she can cook. He sucked in a deep breath of air and narrowed his eyes at her. She had made a point to not tell him about her underwear. He shook his head at her as he tried to suppress the burning anger inside of him.

"You like it, sweetheart." He pressed out, making a point of his own. "I know that, because you haven't given me your name yet. I'm sure you do know that I'll call you whatever I want till you give me your name." He chuckled at her. He had succeeded in pushing his rage away, but had she challenged him in a manner more fierce, he would have failed.

"Come here." He said to her as he wound his arm around her waist without asking permission. She was his after all. He pulled her out of his house and all the way through the grassy plains, to a path that led down. He pointed out a city to her. "A ten minute walk." He said to her as if she should have known that. It was luckily not the steepest, but if one were to be careless about their descent, they would slip. He had even stuck slabs of rocks into the harsher parts to create a sort of stairs.

"I am not that unreasonable, sweetheart." He said to her. He gestured back to his house and cleared his throat. "Would you prepare dinner?" He asked in a sweet voice, laced with some sarcasm as if he was challenging her. He was aware the state his place was in. He had once accidentally burned a section down and had to rebuild it - but some soot still clung to the walls, and some bricks were chipped by claw marks. He started walking back, following the little path through the grass where he had led her through a moment ago.

His voice held a hint of anger and harshness to it this time, and she was sure her quick succession of criticisms had not been well received. Luckily he did not seem angry enough to strike her or lash out in some other way. She frowned at his reasoning behind her new pet name, something that made sense even if she did not wish it to. Still she did not readily offer her name, though she did not fully understand her own hesitation.

She flinched as he moved closer to wrap an arm around her waist. He half led, half dragged her from the cabin, walking her through the tall grass and finally to a path. She had no experience in dealing with dragons, and little dealing with men in any sort of close capacity outside of her immediate family and a few others. To be so close was making nervous, her heart pounding faster, or perhaps it was his quick pace that encouraged her heart.  Once they came to a stop he extended his arm, pointing to a city below. It was close enough that she could make out much of it, though the way down seemed somewhat steep or at least unsafe in some spots. It would be perhaps a ten minute walk down as he said, but caution and effort would make the walk back longer.

She raised a brow as he changed the subject suddenly, asking her to prepare dinner. He was teasing her, at least in some way, and she nearly bit her tongue to keep from snapping back at him. His home was nice enough but hardly in a decent state. “Do you have anything to prepare?” She had been inside of his home long enough to get a quick look but nothing of detail, and other than the charred spots, she couldn't even remember if he had a stove or food supplies.

Brantley sighed. Even after what he had pointed out, she was still not giving her name. It was alright with him. He would just keep calling her sweetheart. He noticed that she was quiet, only asking him a moment later if he had anything to prepare. He was a dragon, he ate like one too. If his cupboards were empty then he would be sure he was going to die within minutes. He pushed the door open and went to lean against the counter, wanting to watch her as she would prepare his meal.

"My cupboards are full." He assured her. "If it's not to your liking, I can go find some fresh cattle to scorch." He taunted her a little. He wondered if women were still as sensitive, unwilling to have animals be killed even if it was to feed them. "What will you make?" He questioned her. His eyes moved over her, wanting to tease her even more.

"I think you should cook naked." He winked at her. He reached over and snatched her cloak off her shoulders, grinning as he tossed it towards the armchair not too far away. This virgin was all his to tease, and he would tease her for as long as he could.

He moved past her, pushing open the cabin door and heading directly to the kitchen. He seemed confident that she would have no trouble finding something to make within the messily organized space. Aria was less confident, but at least there would be enough that she wouldn't have to ask him to scorch any cattle. She knew where her food often came from but that did not mean she was experienced with dealing with that realization face to face. “No.. No need for any scorching..” She made her way into the kitchen, quickly searching through the cabinets.

She hesitated as he inquired as to what she would make, and even after looking through it all she had little idea. Her stomach was still unsettled from the jarring ride and the precarious situation she was in. “I am not sure. I have not had to feed a dragon before..”  Aria bit the bit of extra material at the finger of her leather glove, tugging it from her hand before repeating the process with the other. She froze as he mentioned he cooking nude, taking a quick breath and forcing herself to recover quickly. “I am not a creature of fire... cooking while nude would be dangerous for me.” She had been considering pulling off the leather armor, but couldn't bring herself to do it now. “What would you like to eat?”

Just as Brantley had expected, threatening to fetch an animal to eat had spurred his sweetheart into action. He sat back and watched her as she searched for things to make him. He frowned at her admission of not knowing what to make. When he listened to her, it was pretty obvious how sweet she was. She seemed to be accepting his keeping her too. He watched her as she pulled her gloves off, then he moved over and took her fingers. He couldn't help himself. There was something about the way she smelled, and there were so many more smells hidden under her clothes. He pressed her hands to his face, inhaling the smell of her, and the smell that the leather had left behind on her fingertips. He pulled her hands away from his nose then, staring down at her petite frame in the oversized clothing.

"I am only a dragon when I am a dragon. I am a man now, therefore you are feeding a man." He told her, hoping it would set her mind at ease about feeding him. He pondered over it for another moment, thinking about what he actually wanted to eat. He pulled his lips into a tight line, then his mind focused on something.

"Can you make bread?" He asked her. He was still holding on to her hands. "I cannot make it myself and it has become too expensive at the market. So, can you make it? Bread?" He asked her in a more polite tone. He stroked his thumbs over her knuckles to remind her that he was still holding on to her hands.

Aria could feel the weight of his eyes on her as she moved about the kitchen, her mind going over everything she had learned from the cook. The woman was a kind and helpful woman who had been overwhelmingly happy when Aria had come to her as a girl wanting to help and to learn. For some reason now, with a dragon's emerald eyes on her she couldn't seem to remember anything of use. He moved around the counter top, capturing her fingers in his only a moment after she had freed them from her gloves. Fear and surprise spurred her heart, and she shied back from him. His grip on her hands was not painful but firm, giving her no room for escape without conflict.

Her hands were pressed against the heat of his skin before she could react, the dragon breathing in deeply. Confusion ran through her before she finally realized what he was doing, taking in the scent of her bare skin, the first of it he had really seen besides her face. She stood frozen as he finished, shifting his attention from the scent of her hands to the rest of her. Aria suddenly felt very small and very vulnerable once again, the dragon formidable even in his human form.

She licked her lips and nodded nervously, a long slow breath helping to steady herself. His words did not set her at ease, her situation was by far too precarious for that, but at least she knew he would not want something unusual prepared for him, or so she hoped. His face shifted into a more thoughtful and then concentrated expression and she tensed, unsure what to expect from him. “Bread?” It was not what she had expected from him, but it was at least something she knew how to make. “I.. Yes.. I can make it.” He still had her hands in his, his thumbs gently brushing over her skin. “I.. Will need my hands, as well as flour...”

Bread.
That was all that the beast wanted.

Even though his tone was softer and his approach less menacing, his human companion still seemed fearful of him. He did not blame her, since he was a dragon, but he had expected her to relax slightly.

"Yes, bread. What were you expecting, that I ask you to climb into the oven yourself?" he asked her with raised brows. "I could roast you myself if I wished, but that is besides the point. I would simply like bread - fresh, warm, buttered bread." He told her, thinking that perhaps clarifiying would aid her in knowing that he meant bread when he said bread. She licked her lips and another smell wafted from her exposed skin. She was asking for him to let her go, but he wanted to pull her in closer. It was taking every bit of strength he had to not force himself upon the virgin. She was his, but she needed to be his in her own mind too.

Brantley let go of her hands, granting her what she asked for. He moved away from her and rifled through his stocked cupboard. He found the bag of flour and pulled it out, setting it on the table for her. He knew she would likely ask at some point, so he started the fire under the stove before she could. He stacked a few loggs and breathed on them. His lungs exhaled fire even in his human form. Satisfied, he leaned back against the counter beside the stove and watched her move about.

"Why are you dressed like that?" He questioned her, eyeing her leathers and excessive clothing. "I can buy you new clothes - or I suppose I could give you the money and you can go buy some for yourself." He offered, crossing his arms over his chest. He kept staring at her.

Once again her captor's response came at as a surprise, his words somewhere between mocking and playful. She hadn't expected him to cook and eat her, not exactly, or perhaps not anymore since he could have easily done that at any time already if that was his intention. But she had expected him to want something more, a larger meal. She frowned, her usual urge to throw a snappy response back at him held in check by her fear of its results.

He finally released her hands, moving about the kitchen to gather some of the things she had requested. The bag of flour hit the table, a fine cloud of it dusting the table below as he set it down. He then moved to the oven, bringing it to her attention and making her realize what it was. After a moment he lit the fire, though not in the usual way any man would, his breath still holding the power of a dragon. It was a frightening reminder of his strength, his power even in the more relatable form. She couldn't keep herself from stepping back, her hip hitting the counter top with a light bump.

Aria recovered quickly enough, biting her bottom lip and turning her back to him, her attention on the flour in front of her as she regained her composure. A moment later she was moving around the kitchen once more, seeking out a bowl to mix everything in, and something to bake it on. He questioned her clothing and she paused, looking down at herself. “It was the closest things I could find to fit me...” She realized that wasn't a clear enough explanation for him, her words making it seem as though she had some difficulty dressing herself. He had already assumed she was simple minded before.  “I could not let that woman be sacrificed for my father's mistakes, but I could not go with a dragon without at least trying to fight for my freedom. I suppose there is little use for it now.” She dusted the flour off of her hands, her fingers deftly unhooking and removing the leather chest, shoulder, and arm armor. She placed it carefully against one wall outside of the kitchen, leaving her in leather pants and a pale tunic, her dark braid trailing down her back.

Brantley's eyes focused on the young woman as she moved about, making the bread that he had requested. He frowned at her answer, that the clothes that she was wearing were the closest she could find that fit her. It made very little sense, since she could have worn anything to give herself to him. It dawned on him a moment later that she thought she could kill him, perhaps. Maybe her sacrifice was a guise and she meant to harm him. Distrust settled between them.

She mentioned her father and that she wanted to fight him for her freedom, that the other girl did not deserve to be a sacrifice. He frowned at her. Her father was the lord?

"So the lord wouldn't offer his own daughter for his mistakes, and she offers herself." He stated. "Horrible mistakes he's made, by the way - claiming to have killed our kind, to be above us." He scoffed. "Only way he will ever be above me if I toss him in the air." He attempted a joke. It was perhaps funnier to him than to his sweetheart. It was after all her father he was making fun of.

"What a sweetheart, you sacrifice yourself instead because I'm too hard to resist." He teased her, sending her a wink. She removed the leathers a moment later and revealed more of her figure to the dragon. He cleared his throat, finding himself at a loss for words. And she had long hair, he loved long hair. He would enjoy his virgin so much.

Aria started the process of measuring and mixing everything she needed to make the dragon his bread, though she was estimating some of it. As much as she wanted to keep distance between her and the man, she didn't want to spend all day looking for measuring cups, and settled for a mug instead. It would be more about the consistency of the dough than anything else, and it gave her something to focus more fully on. Despite that she did not miss the shift in the dragon's expression as he realized she had intended to fight him, to fight for her own life.

A frown pulled at her lips, more so at the reminder that her father was a braggart and a coward than any comment or joke the dragon could make. She remembered being a small girl and believing her father was a great warrior, a kind and just leader, but things were no longer that simple, and her father was no longer that man. More than that she was no longer a little girl, but a grown woman and a prize for a dragon.

She glanced over at him as he referred to her by his assigned pet name and gave her some recognition for the sacrifice she had made. At least he was human enough in that he could see she had done something that was not required of her, something she may not have wanted to do, even if he turned it into some joke in his favor. "How could I have decided to take the place of the other woman because of your appeal when I had never met you before?" He cleared his throat, though if it was because she had said something terse to him or because she had finally removed the armor she could not tell. Either way she turned her attention back to the creation of the dough. It took only a short time before she was satisfied with it, and she split the dough ball into two large pieces and set them on a flat metal tray before covering them with a cloth. "The dough needs to rise for some time before I can cook it or it will turn out dense and heavy rather than soft and light." She rubbed her hands together scraping and dusting the bits of dough and flour from her hands.

Brantley sighed when his teasing was not received well. She was clearly very unhappy about the whole situation, which he could understand to some degree, but still he wasn't grasping why this was so horrible for her. So far he hadn't hurt her, he hadn't bee rude to her. He thought his company was something she would appreciate, that she would perhaps be honored to be privy to the thoughts of a man who was also a beast. If she happened to ask, he could tell her about places he's flown to, things he had seen, villages he had burned and the reasons for it. He had more to him than just the part of him she was regarding now, the dragon who had taken a woman to spare her village. She should even feel proud of herself for that, saving all those people and in turn actually getting a decent life out of it, if not fairly equal.

Instead she was being stubborn, somewhat of a brat. He pulled his face, displeased.

"I suppose it's no honor to you that you saved the whole village. I might as well go burn it to the ground right now and call it a night. That man, your father, irked me enough to end his whole line - but I suppose you saw no appeal in what you did." He challenged her, narrowing his eyes. Humans never ceased to amaze him. "Then again, you're his daughter so perhaps I shouldn't expect any better from you." He added.

"Then make something else in the meantime." He shrugged at her telling him the bread needed time. He didn't know why she was making idle conversation if she could apparently not stand him.

It became obvious that she had upset him very quickly, his face shifting into an expression that was pure displeasure and annoyance. It had been rude of her to make such a remark, but it wasn't as if she had decided to sacrifice herself lightly. It had been the right thing to do, and she had been wiling to face death to atone for her father and save the people of their town. She had not expected to live as the pet of a dragon able to take the form of a man. Her entire life had been tilted sideways, and she was struggling to make sense of it all.

Her azure eyes flickered up to meet his as he spoke, confusion and then fear crossing her face. He was threatening to destroy the town, to end her father's line which included her own life. He compared her to her father. She shook her head, fear and worry obvious in her expression and voice. "You can't…" She had given herself to him, had sacrificed herself and it would all be for nothing if he simply destroyed the town despite that. "Please. Kill me if you wish but leave the town in peace. Do not punish the people there for my father's stubborn ways… For my faults.."

She felt panic well up in her, the threat of tears. As much as she liked to think herself brave the thought that he would do such a thing shattered those thoughts in her mind. She turned her back to him, using the chance to make something else while he waited, as a distraction, blinking away her tears and making an effort to regain control of herself.

Brantley hadn't thought that voicing his thoughts would drive his virgin prize to tears. He frowned at her. Perhaps it was a good thing, for her to learn her place and to accept that he was serious about the damage that he was capable of inflicting.

Then again, he had wanted to joke and be lighthearted but he had ruined the mood for himself. Now there was a lady crying in his kitchen over the food that she was making him and he didn't know how to deal with it.

"I won't kill you." He said as if it was obvious. How could he kill her if she smelled so good, so delicious. He wanted to wrap her existence around him and just get drunk on that smell she was giving off. "It wouldn't be right, you for the town. I want you alive. Dead, you're no good." he shook his head. He paused and sighed. She still hadn't given him her name.

"You know, you can go visit that coward, your father. As long as you return timeously, there's no reason you can't - however I wouldn't suggest it. He is undeserving of a presence such as yours." He looked her over again, his eyes falling over her body. He licked his bottom lip.

"You still haven't answered me. I have nothing to call you but Sweetheart. And you made no indication of wanting money for more clothes." His annoyance returned. She was willingly giving herself in exchange for the town, yet here she was being unwilling and uncooperative. The only thing she seemed willing to do was to make him food.

His voice was steady and matter of fact as he responded. Still Aria found reassurance in it, he didn't seem like the kind of man to say such a thing and intend something else. But it seemed like his focus was on her, while hers had been on the town. In some way her life as she had known it was over, but she had done such a thing in order to save the innocent people in the town. She glanced at him over her shoulder, seeing him shake his head guessing she was the source of his frustration. Either way he wanted her alive, and for now at least that meant she was safe.

Aria froze, hand outstretched to retrieve a potato as he mentioned her father. For being a prize to him, he was giving her quite a bit of freedom. Perhaps it was a test of some kind, a way to see if she would try to escape him, to give him a reason to destroy the town or her father. "My father would lock me away if I were to return." She grabbed the vegetables she had been collecting, placing them carefully on the counter top. Her father would be furious that she had dared to go against his orders, that she had dared to defy him in any way.

She pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on cleaning the vegetables and finding a pan. Chewing her lip she hesitated "Ariana Dulcain. Those  close to me call me Aria." She considered the offer of money for clothing and even knowing she would need more she found herself hesitating to accept it from him. Should she linger too long in town or lose her way her absence could being the dragon's wrath down on town. "I am… I shouldn't leave while cooking or baking, and the sun will set in a few hours. I can wait for clothing."

Brantley sighed, not too pleased that he had soured the mood. Nevertheless, he saw her reach for a potato and he was immediately excited at the food again. He looked, peering, to see what else she was making to go with the bread. It was a vegetarian meal, but perhaps his comment of roasting animals had her put off the idea of eating meat. Understanding, he wasn't going to ask for any just yet - but he did love carion. He was just thinking about how well a minced meat would go with the veggies, in a juicy stew with that bread. He licked his lips. Having a woman around was going to be great for his apetite, he thought.

He nodded thoughtfully at her saying that her father would lock her away. "You have a dragon on your side now, if you do change your mind." he told her with a shrug. "I wouldn't mind if you were to invite me with if you go to towns - then I would extend your curfew." He hoped it was a tempting offer. He just didn't want her leaving alone, and possibly not returning. She was his and he didn't like his things going missing.

"Ariana Dulcain." he repeated her name, liking it. "Have I introduced myself? I am Brantley - just Brantley." He told her. He moved closer, unable to take the waiting. He looked at the veggies that she was chopping, hoping they would be done soon. "What are you making, Aria my sweetheart?" He teased her, standing close enough to have his chest against her shoulders.

He nodded as though the idea of her father locking her away was something he had expected. Given his opinion of her father she should not have been so surprised, though his next words were by far more unexpected.  The thought of taking the dragon with her, even in human form was difficult to imagine. How would she explain where she had been, what had happened or who the strange man was? To admit that he was the dragon would only result in an attack, in chaos and bloodshed. Aria doubted the beast would agree to some farce, some lie that he was simply a normal human man, but perhaps if he did she could retrieve some of her belongings, and more importantly, insure that her father did not send soldiers out to find her.  If nothing else having the dragon go with her to the market would be in some way comforting. She had never been allowed to go anywhere without a guard, and though to do so would be its own small freedom, she did not wish to risk the dragon's wrath.

"Thank you, but I am not sure that would be wise.." She did not explain further, not fully sorted through her own thoughts.  She nodded as he spoke her name, then again as he introduced himself again. "Yes, Brantley… or.. Um.. Bran." She remembered his earlier introduction but her words were still hesitant as he moved closer. With the closeness, his comfort with it and the way he asked his question, to any outsider they would seem a married couple. But Aria's breath hitched, fear mixed with something else stirring in her. He was a large man, or at least large compared to her. His chest pressed against her shoulders, and her head could have easily tucked under his chin. She pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on her work. "I was hoping you had a favorite meat… and I could sear it all, then leave it at that or even make a stew, though that will take longer." By the time the meat was finished cooking she could put the bread in the oven, then add the vegetables to the pan over the stove and with any hope have everything finished a short while before the bread.

The dragon's human companion did not seem comfortable at all with the idea of going back to her father. Brantley narrowed his eyes. Perhaps she had thought that he would kill her when she challenged him. It was makinghim question the relationship that she possibly had with her father. She didn't want to see him, even if he went with her to protect her from the man. He dropped the topic, thinking that it was her own concern if she didn't have clothes to wear. She would need to ask him if she wanted anything, but that was her problem since she was refusing him right then.

His questioning her about the food seemed to have aroused her in some way, or in the very least stirred something. he kept staring at her over her shoulder, his hand moving to her upper arm, as he leaned in to inhale the smell of the food. It wasn't even cooking. His keen sense of smell could pick a lot up though. He could smell her more than anything. The virgin was clouding his senses and he almost thought that she was bad for him in a sense.

"Meat?" He questioned. He had thought that he had put her off the idea of meat with his comments. He was excited to hear that she was wanting to put meat with it. It had him thinking that she was reading his mind. He was even hungrier, hearing what she had planned for him. he moved away from her and left her alone for a moment to visit his smokehouse. He returned a moment later, setting some of that minced meat down that he had been dreaming about a moment earlier. "Would this go with your stew?" He asked her. He was next to her, leaning against the counter and watching over her and the work she was doing all for him.

"Were you to marry a suitor, before I claimed you?" He questioned, curious about this beautiful woman.

The dragon moved a hand to her arm, his grip gentle on her as he leaned over, taking in the scent of everything as she cut it and set it aside. It was a gesture of familiarity that they shouldn't have, that both frightened her and sent a small shiver down her spine. She mentally scolded herself. She was hardly a young girl who should be so giddy at the thought of a handsome man nearby. With a steadying breath she tried to regain some sense of herself and focus on her task.

“Yes... unless you would prefer something without?” She had expected an immediate acceptance of her suggestion, but instead it seemed as though he had surprised her. Once that surprise wore off he seemed excited, pleased that she would include such a thing in his meal. The whole thing was strange, as she was sure dragons ate meat often, if not exclusively. It was such a curious situation with him being able to take on the form of a man, something that she had not know dragons could do until only a short time ago.

He left quickly and without any real reaction, and Aria, though curious simply  took a moment to check how much the dough had risen before he finally returned. He set some meat down on the counter beside her, this time surprising her. “Oh.. yes.. It will.”  She chewed her bottom lip, Shifting her attention to finishing the task of cutting all of the various vegetables. Once finished she sought out a pot and presented it to him just in time for him to catch her off guard with another question. She wasn't sure how to answer at first, but managed some sort of answer. “All daughters of lords are to be married... I would have been presented as a bride for some other lord or his son in hopes of brokering peace, trade or power.” Her eyes flickered from the pot in her hands to the dragon's eyes and back down again. To be used as some sort of prize or trading piece for her father had been one of the reasons she had so easily sacrificed herself. The other woman had a chance at love and a free life, where Aria did not. “I will need water for the stew..”
